Book Voucher Schemes
However good or relevant a development book may be, it is of no use if the people it will benefit most cannot afford to buy it.
This is where our book voucher schemes come in. Our partners provide a fund of money that enables selected organizations in developing countries to receive much needed published resources free of charge. Last year, ITDG Publishing was able to supply over 7000 free of charge books to developing countries, thanks to the charities, NGOs and commercial organizations who fund these schemes.
We are able to handle all aspects of a voucher programme - from concept and planning to establishing communications with the beneficiary centres or offices, handling correspondence, researching titles, through to order processing, book despatch, follow-up and evaluation. ITDG Publishing have managed a number of book schemes with partners including VSO, Oxfam, CAFOD, ICD (International Corporation for Development), Christian Aid, CTA and the Shell Foundation.
Examples of existing book voucher schemes include:
Book Aid International - (formerly Ranfurly Library Service) works in partnership with organizations in developing countries to support their work in literacy, education, training and publishing by providing books and other reading materials. These help give people the chance to realize their potential and contribute to the development of their societies. ITDG Publishing supplies books from the following bespoke catalogues
Shell Foundation Energy
- The Sustainable Energy Programme (SEP) is the major grant-making programme
of the Shell Foundation. ITDG Publishing in partnership with the Shell
Foundation supplies books on renewable energy to participating African
NGOs working in the renewable energy sector. The two goals of the SEP
are to help society's efforts to find solutions to the environmental impacts
of growing energy use, and to help overcome poverty in developing countries
by increasing access to more sustainable energy sources.
Oxfam - the Oxfam books voucher scheme has been in operation since 1996. The recipient groups are Oxfam field offices worldwide.
Dissemination of Agricultural Reference
Books (DORA) - managed by ITDG Publishing
on behalf of the inter-governmental agricultural organization CTA and
BDPA, the DORA scheme provides beneficiary centres in Africa with much-needed
agricultural reference books. dora.html
